Relationships in the IT industry is very, very important. It’s absolutely necessary that you trust your IT provider. I get it, it’s scary.

You have to trust that person because there is a lot of risk involved. When I moved to Boise in 2005, I was completely starting from scratch. I didn’t know anybody. I didn’t have anybody to refer me.

There’s a lot of fear for people when they start a business. It’s not easy. A lot of it you don’t realize until you’re already neck-deep in running your company. Or you’re starting your business, and you realize, oh I also have to do this. Oh I also have to do this.
BRITTANY VAN VLIET: Thank you for calling 208Geek. This is Brittany, how can I help you?

JACOB VAN VLIET: One of the very first things I did was obviously sign up for the Better Business Bureau.
Good job, man.
Every person that we would talk to on the phone, we’d ask them, why did you choose our business over others, was because we had that BBB accreditation. For me personally, I look at it’s a cost of doing business. There has to be resources out there for customers to feel like if the business isn’t doing what’s right, that they have a resource that they can go, file a complaint or have some mediation done so they can get a problem resolved.

A lot of private information on people’s computers. And unfortunately in my industry, there is a lot of distrust. And that’s something that we come across quite often is people are– they’re scared. And I don’t blame them. It just makes people feel more comfortable when they’re doing business with a company that’s accredited.

We’ve been in business for over 20 years. I’m a BBB member. There’s a lot of things I try to do to show that our company runs with integrity.
SPEAKER: Hello.
JACOB VAN VLIET: Hey.
At the end of the day, an IT provider’s job is to supply peace of mind, is to help people not be stressed out. When we get a positive review, or we see that smile on the customer’s face when we show them how to do something or fix their computer for them, it honestly makes us feel good. It makes me remember why we do what we do.
